Things To Consider While Choosing Baby Food
All parents want their babies to get the best nutrition in the market. However, at times when parents tend to fall prey to advertisement campaigns and to wrong information provided by medical representatives, the child stands at risk of bearing the brunt of a money making business.
Always focus on a Balanced Diet
This is true for kids and adults alike- the diet intake should be balanced. Till your baby is of four months, there is no better nutrition than breast milk. However, after this, you should gradually introduce solid food. Cereals like rice, a single vegetable and fruits could be the perfect diet for starters- preferably mash them to a puree state so that it is easy for the baby to digest. Even if the baby pukes or cries, don’t get upset- he/she will get used to it later. These days, doctors also recommend providing kids with organic food supplements, which are rich in calcium, vitamin C and have antioxidants that can’t fight cancerous agents right from the beginning. Besides, vitamin C is known to help the baby absorb iron- so try supplementing vitamin C with cereals and fruits that are rich in iron.
Foods to avoid
Since you can’t be sure as to which substance may trigger off a set of allergic reactions in your kid, try to avoid nuts. They could prove to be choking hazards as well. If you find your baby having allergic reactions, try to eliminate citrus fruit, dairy products, eggs and shellfish one by one to detect the allergen- keep the particular food out of your baby’s diet for sometime. Honey, sugar and salt should not be introduced before one year of age- they are known to cause infant botulism and dehydration respectively.
